For years, Iraq has suffered under the weight of corruption, injustice, and broken promises. I am a Kurdish Iraqi. I have witnessed how the central government in Baghdad has failed its people. The Kurdish authorities in Erbil have also failed their people.
According to Transparency International, Iraq consistently ranks among the world’s most corrupt countries. Billions have disappeared from state funds while millions live without reliable electricity, clean water, or healthcare. In 2022 alone, over 300,000 government employees were found to be receiving “ghost salaries.” This is not governance — it’s exploitation.
Kurdistan, my home, is no exception. The KRG (Kurdistan Regional Government) presents itself as a beacon of democracy, but dissent is punished. Peaceful protesters have been arrested. Journalists have been silenced. Families live in fear — not just of violence, but of being forgotten by a system built to protect itself.
I fled Iraq in 2015 not because I wanted to leave, but because I was facing death. My voice was a threat to those in power. But silence is no longer a possibility.
Through this website, I speak freely under my real name. I do so with full awareness of the risks, because the truth must be told. I am aware that I could face arrest, Torture and Death if I were to return to Iraq now. This is especially true if I return without legal documents or protection. The situation be even worse.
ساڵانێکە عێراق لەژێر قورسایی گەندەڵی و نادادپەروەری و شکاندنی بەڵێنەکاندا زەرەرمەند بووە. من کوردێکی عێراقیم. من شاهیدی ئەوە بووم کە حکومەتی ناوەندی لە بەغدا چۆن شکستی بە خەڵکەکەی هێناوە. دەسەڵاتی کوردی هەولێریش شکستی بە گەلەکەیان هێناوە.
بەپێی ڕاپۆرتی ڕێکخراوی شەفافیەتی نێودەوڵەتی، عێراق بە بەردەوامی لە ڕیزبەندی گەندەڵترین وڵاتانی جیهاندایە. ملیارەها دۆلار لە سندوقەکانی دەوڵەتدا نەماون لە کاتێکدا ملیۆنان کەس بەبێ کارەبای متمانەپێکراو و ئاوی پاک و چاودێری تەندروستی دەژین. تەنها لە ساڵی ٢٠٢٢دا زیاتر لە ٣٠٠ هەزار فەرمانبەری حکومەت دەرکەوتووە کە “مووچەی جنۆکەیی” وەردەگرن. ئەمە حوکمڕانی نییە — ئەوە ئیستغلالکردنە.
کوردستان، ماڵی من، بێبەری نییە. حکومەتی هەرێم (حکومەتی هەرێمی کوردستان) خۆی وەک چرایەکی دیموکراسی پیشان دەدات، بەڵام ناکۆکی سزا دەدرێت. خۆپیشاندەرانی ئاشتیانە دەستگیر کراون. ڕۆژنامەنووسان بێدەنگ کراون. خێزانەکان لە ترسدا دەژین – نەک تەنها لە توندوتیژی، بەڵکو لەبیرکردنیان لەلایەن سیستەمێکەوە کە بۆ پاراستنی خۆی دروستکراوە.
من لە ساڵی ٢٠١٥ عێراق هەڵاتم نەک لەبەر ئەوەی ویستم بڕۆم، بەڵکو لەبەر ئەوەی ڕووبەڕووی مردن بوومەوە. دەنگی من هەڕەشە بوو بۆ ئەوانەی دەسەڵاتیان هەبوو. بەڵام بێدەنگی ئیتر ئەگەر نییە.
لە ڕێگەی ئەم ماڵپەڕەوە بە ئازادی لە ژێر ناوی ڕاستەقینەی خۆمدا قسە دەکەم. من بە ئاگادارییەکی تەواوەوە لە مەترسییەکان ئەوە دەکەم، چونکە دەبێت ڕاستییەکان بگوترێ. ئاگادارم ئەگەر ئێستا بگەڕێمەوە عێراق، دەتوانم ڕووبەڕووی دەستگیرکردن و ئەشکەنجە و مردن ببمەوە. ئەمە بە تایبەتی ڕاستە ئەگەر بێ بەڵگەنامەی یاسایی و پارێزگاری لێبکەمەوە. دۆخەکە لەوەش خراپتر بێت.
